Thousands of rejoicing turks have
filled istanbul’s taksim square , about 24 hours after a failed coup by a faction of the turkish military.
In cities across turkey, huge crowds of supporters of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated the quashing of the coup attempt.
Two hundred and sixty-five people
were killed as violence gripped ankara and istanbul on friday night.
Officials say that of this total,
161 were police and civilians and 104 were people involved in the coup attempt.
Close to 3,000 soldiers,
including some top military commanders, have been arrested as part of the
government crackdown on those that took part.
It is not clear who was behind
the plot to oust the government.
President Erdogan has accused
us-based cleric Fethullah Gulen of orchestrating the plan.
The conservative People’s Party
(PP) of acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy won most seats in Spain’s parliamentary election
on Yesterday, increasing the number from the last election in December.
The PP won 137 seats in the
350-strong parliament, compared to 123 seats last time, still short of the 176
needed for an outright majority.
“We have won the elections — we claim the right to govern,” Rajoy told the
crowd in Cibeles Square. “Now it’s about being useful to 100 percent of the
Spanish people.”
The election results confounded
exit polls and suggested voters had shied away from the two newcomers, Unidos
Podemos and Ciudadanos,
The Socialists, led by Pedro
Sanchéz, fell to 85 seats from 90 last time out, while anti-establishment group
Podemos was unchanged on 71.
The leader of Spain’s Ciudadanos
party Albert Rivera said he is ready to initiate talks with the PP party and
discuss the question of forming a coalition government.
The two combined would fall just
seven seats short of a majority, putting pressure on the Socialists to drop
their opposition to a PP-led government.
In the meantime,Spain has now enter another round of backroom talks to see
which parties can form a governing coalition, a task that eluded them despite
months of negotiations following the December vote.
Moreover, politicians will be
under pressure to reach a deal quickly given the uncertainty and confusion
sweeping Europe after Britain’s vote last week to leave the EU.
A suicide bomb attack in Somalia’s capital
Mogadishu has killed at least a dozen people.
The Al-Shabaab Islamic group attacked the
Nasa-hablod hotel, telling police that “apostate members of the government”
frequented it.
Immediately after the explosion its fighters
stormed the building and gunfire broke out. Police said an unknown number of
hostages were taken.
Al Shabaab frequently stages attacks in the
city, aiming to overthrow the western backed government.
The group attack comes as Muslims hold their
fast in month of Ramadan in Somalia and worldwide.
It will be recalled that Al Shabaab has
staged attacks before during Ramadan, targeting places where people gather to
break their fast.

A satirical advertisement
supporting 360fly’s recently released 4K immersive 360-degree video camera has
been banned by US networks including ABC, NBC and CBS.
As reported earlier on, 360fly is
focusing on the US presidential race, with an exclusive interview with Peter
Adderton, 360fly CEO.
The spot “features actors
portraying the three most-prominent US presidential candidates, utilising the
widely debated border wall concept as its primary focal point”.
“The fictional futuristic satire
is set in a desert landscape at the foot of the newly constructed border wall,
where a rally takes place to celebrate the wall’s construction,” 360fly states
of the ad.
With a President Trump
look-a-like standing “at the podium delivering a triumphant declaration”, a blogger
utilises the 360fly 4K 360-degree video camera, recording the event and
capturing “much more than merely the presidential address”.
It reveals Hillary Clinton and
Bernie Sanders look-a-likes “assisting Mexican immigrants out of the tunnel
that have successfully made their way under the wall and onto US soil”.
“Focused firmly on delivering his
triumphant address and claiming the wall is ‘impenetrable’, the president
remains oblivious to the activity taking place behind him as Mexican immigrants
continue to emerge from the tunnel,” 360fly states.
The spot finishes with the
message: “Get a broader perspective. Miss nothing.”
